In the early hours of Thursday morning Feb. 15th, Mrs. Mary Francis Glenn nee Johnson passed peacefully away at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. D. Russell, at Mashu'aville. her body was tenderly laid to rest in the Baptist Cemetery at that place after appropriate services at the family residence by Revs. Simpson and Lipscomb.
She was born in Pickens county, Alabalm about 72 years ago, her family moving shortly thereafter to Lowndes county, near Crawford. Afterward moving the Singleton, Winston county, where she married Dr. Thomas A. Glenn,
She was reared in a christian home, well educated in the best schools of ante-bellum days and in her daily life and disposition exhibited the peculiar charm and characteristics of that time.
With her property swept away by the war and left a widow with the task of rearing and educating her children, she met every demand as is shown by her worth childrem, Rev. J. O. Glenn, pastor of Lutheran church, Irwin,m Pa.; Albert S. J. Glenn, Brooksville; R. H. and F. M. Glenn, Noxapater, and Mrs. Geo. D. Russell, and Mrs. C. P. Peters, of Mashulaville.
In early life she gave her heart to God and had been a consistent christian and member of the Evangalical Lutheran church. Her mind sought the higher attitude. She was never known to speak evil of any one and never murmering or complaining because of her long affliction even in greatest pain smiling sweetly and endeavored to e cheerful and make others happy. She was tenderly ministered unto during her long illness by her devoted daughter, Mrs. Russell. |
