Dr. Theodore Reid Jones passed away on November 3, 2002, at Somerset Care Center in Prairie Village, KS. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 16, 2002, at Village Presbyterian Church Chapel. Family requests contributions to Grace Medical Missions, 5615 W. 81st Terr., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Dr. Jones was born February 1, 1914, in Kansas City, MO. He graduated from Westport High School in 1931. He attended Kansas City Junior College for two years and then went on to the University of Kansas School of Medicine for his M.D. degree, class of 1937. He interned at the University of Philadelphia for two years and was a resident in internal medicine at Barnes Hospital of St. Louis. He did an internal medicine fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. He then served in the Navy during WWII on a hospital ship in Sicily and Algiers. He started in practice with his father, Dr. Harry L. Jones, when discharged from active duty in the Navy. He remained in the Naval Reserves until 1970, reaching the rank of Captain. He was a lifetime fellow of the American College of Physicians. He served as Chief of Medicine at St. Joseph Hospital, St. Luke's Hospital, Baptist Hospital and General Hospital #1. He retired from active medical practice in 1989 and began working as a consultant for Social Security Disability until 1995. He was an elder at Central Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir, and most recently belonged to Village Presbyterian Church. He was a past president of the American Heart Association of Kansas City, which is where he met his beloved, late wife, Betty Jane Swan. They were married in 1955. He leaves behind his daughter, Dr. Beth Jones of Prairie Village, KS; a son, Daniel Jones, and a grandson, Peter John Jones, both of Independence, MO; as well as six nieces and nephews.
